India May Soon Have One Integrated ID

The Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology (MeitY) proposed a new “Federal Digital Identities” model under which a citizen can store, interlink, and access multiple digital IDs through one unique ID. The proposal will soon be in the public domain, and the ministry will take comments by 27th February 2022.

According to the draft proposal, the ministry has suggested that this umbrella digital identity will empower the citizens by choosing which identity is required for what purpose. It would also eliminate the need for the verification process as all the digital identities will be interlinked.

Federal Digital Identities would also serve as a registry where all the different state and center IDs can be stored.

The ministry has moved the proposal to India Enterprise Architecture (IndEA) 2.0, which proposes a framework to enable private and public sector companies to design and build IT architecture that delivers holistic and integrated service to the customers.
