The funding is being made available through broadband infrastructure grants awarded to Comcast, Verizon and Mediacom, which will expand their coverage areas to reach an additional 11,600 homes and businesses.
StateRAMP provides state and local governments assurance that the suppliers they are working with meet the minimum cybersecurity standards through independent audits and ongoing continuous monitoring.
Once registered, citizens will be assigned a National Identity Number (NIN), and will be able to use their fingerprints to gain access to various government services. The national identity program is also being integrated with private services to encourage large scale adoption. Most notably, people will be able to use their NIN to make payments and complete mobile banking transactions.
Potentially, additional personal data such as a person’s sexuality, credit score, criminal record, gun license status, and vaccine status could be included in a digital ID.
The minister says her department is working with SAPO management and its board to reposition the troubled institution to become relevant in the digital era, while working towards the resolution of its financial challenges.
There will be no network dependencies on systems outside Germany, and the independent operation of all services will be ensured. All data will be processed and stored in Germany, and all services will be delivered from within Germany.
