Up to five projects are expected to be selected from the process. They are expected to create upwards of 2,000 direct and indirect jobs over their lifetime, mostly in rural Nova Scotia, and generate more than $550 million in construction activity.
Organisations can apply for up to $50,000 through the Community Climate Change and Energy Action program to upgrade heating and cooling, install shading, insulation, double glazing, lighting and renewable energy installations like roof-top solar panels and battery storage.
Singapore’s government will likely open up the market again to new data centre investments “some time this year” but with stricter rules, including reportedly limiting the power capacity for new facilities to around 5 megawatts.
The Government, through the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), is providing $100 million in grants for large-scale battery energy storage projects of 70MW or larger to provide essential system stability services to the electricity grid.
